You will complete the same amount of college work in 10 days as is normally completed in a 14-week semester.
Complete a prerequisite or lighten your spring courseload with Intersession, a 10-day intensive session for students who want to earn college credit during the winter holidays. When we say "intensive," we mean it! You will complete the same amount of college work in 10 days as is normally completed in a 14-week semester.
Classes & Registration
Classes are offered both on-campus and online. Most take ten days to complete, but several can be completed in just five days. The deadline for registering for classes is January 2, and classes begin January 3. To view our Intersession offerings, go to the online Class Schedule. Under Search by Term choose Spring 2019 and then click Submit. When the search page appears, highlight the subject(s) you are interested in, and, under Part of Term, select Jan Intersession Session 1 and Jan Intersession Session 2. Click the Class Search button on the lower left to view your Intersession class options.
What to Expect
Students must attend every scheduled class meeting. Online students are expected to be online every day for 5 to 8 hours per day, per course. There is one snow make-up day included in the academic calendar. However, in case of inclement weather, faculty may provide students with a take-home assignment in advance or post it online. For those who are disciplined and able to put in the work, intersession is a terrific way to earn credit. However, students who are experiencing academic difficulty are discouraged from taking these courses.
Many of our classes readily transfer to other institutions. If you are planning to transfer intersession credit elsewhere, be sure to check with your receiving institution.
For those interested in taking on-campus courses, please be aware that Pioneer Valley Transit Authority bus service is limited during the intersession period. Check with PVTA if you will be depending on a bus for transportation.
